Green & Safe Environment

E-mail Print PDF

The choices we make in our everyday lives, both conscious and unconscious and the decisions made by individuals, organizations and governments, all have an impact on the environment. The infrastructure sectors, which are needed for the operation as well as the services and facilities necessary for society and the economy to function, are really affecting the environment. The infrastructure sectors then have to deal with changes that are happening gradually, for instance demographic development and climate changes.

Infrastructure is both a limiting and driver factor for development, which can decide how we can do things and how much we can do.Infrastructure development in itself is not a bad thing, but it has been in tension with our environment. For example, in the last 10 years, while our economy has grown and developed, so have the greenhouse gas emissions that can contribute to climate change. Fundamentally, the way we have been developing is not as good as it should be, whether from a design of safe and greeninfrastructure point of view or management.

Ultimately, our economy relies on a healthy environment so it is essential to find ways to continue infrastructure development without negative effects on the environment. In view of the above, finding a better balance is the core aim of FIIDCA; an environment safer for workers, safer for societyand safer for the economy. Its activities will focus on devising new technologies and solutions that are tailored to local context and diverse needs; to create incentives and measures that are strong enough to influence environmental protection; and explore strategies for better designing, implementation and evaluating green and safe infrastructure development.
